The Marbella camp

Small-group kayak and surfski camps for individual paddlers. Training, coaching, accommodation, food, boats and transport are all part of the week.

Small groups. Personal coaching. Everything taken care of.

The Marbella camps are deliberately kept small. Each camp has only 4–8 paddlers. That allows the training to remain personal and gives every athlete genuine individual attention throughout the week.

This is not a camp where one coach gives a programme to a large group and everyone disappears to train. Joakim is actively involved — coaching, filming, analysing technique and working directly with the athletes.

Join as much — or as little — as you want.

There will be organised training opportunities throughout the week, but the camp is not a military schedule. Some athletes want maximum training; others want more recovery or extra technique work.

Combine serious paddling with the beach, Marbella or simply relaxing by the pool. All of that is completely fine.

  • Complete all organised sessions
  • Skip a session
  • Recover
  • Paddle more
  • Have individual technique time
  • Relax by the pool
  • Visit Marbella
  • Go to the beach
  • Spend some time alone

It’s your training week.

What do you want to get out of your week?

Before the camp, we want to understand what matters most to you. The week can then be adapted around the athletes attending rather than forcing everyone into exactly the same programme.

A day in Marbella

An example of the rhythm — not a strict timetable.

Morning

Breakfast together, then travel to the lake. The first session might focus on technique, endurance, intervals, race-specific work or easier paddling. Athletes can split into groups while Joakim moves between them, films and coaches individually.

Midday

Return for lunch and recovery. Relax, spend time by the pool, visit Marbella, go to the beach or simply prepare for the next session.

Afternoon

A second training opportunity could be easy paddling, another quality session, technique coaching, filming, video analysis, surfski or ocean paddling.

Evening

Dinner together, with selected evenings for video analysis, individual coaching discussions, a restaurant visit or simply relaxing.

No two days need to look exactly the same.

Personal coaching

Not just group training.

The goal is for every paddler to leave understanding more about their own paddling than when they arrived.

All levels. One personal approach.

You do not need to be an elite athlete. Groups can be divided depending on speed, experience and goals. The important thing is that you want to paddle, train and improve.

The camp adapts to the paddler — not the paddler to the camp.

Individual technique

Coaching the stroke itself.

Technique is where real speed is made. Through the week Joakim works with each paddler individually — filming on the water and breaking the stroke down on the kayak ergometer, where the path, catch and exit can be isolated without distraction.

Using a simple pole on the ergometer, the paddle path, rotation and posture can be coached by hand — a direct, tactile way to rebuild movement and build understanding that transfers straight back to the boat.

It is genuinely one-to-one and adapted to your level and your specific weaknesses, whether you are a recreational paddler or an international athlete.

  • One-to-one technique analysis
  • Ergometer-based stroke work
  • Paddle path, catch & exit
  • Rotation, posture & timing
  • Hands-on, tactile corrections
  • Faster understanding that transfers to the water
  • Adapted to your level & weaknesses
  • On-water filming & review

Small corrections. A better stroke.

Kayak training on the calm water of Lake Istán

Two environments

K1. Surfski. Lake. Ocean.

One of the unique parts of Marbella is the possibility of combining flatwater kayaking with surfski. You can primarily train K1 and still try something different later in the week.

Surfski is optional. For paddlers without ocean experience, double surfskis can offer a controlled introduction.

K1 in the morning. Ocean surfski in the afternoon.

Southern Spain

An environment built for training.

Marbella and Lake Istán combine a beautiful flatwater training environment with a Mediterranean climate, nearby ocean access and space for recovery. It is a strong setup for focused winter training without losing variety.

Space to train. Space to recover.

Accommodation is arranged as part of the All-Inclusive camp. Depending on the camp, the group can stay across one or more nearby houses. The priority is a comfortable environment for training and recovery.

  • Bedrooms adapted to the group
  • Shared living areas
  • Kitchen
  • Outdoor space
  • Recovery environment
  • Pool depending on property
  • Easy access to training

Fuel the training

Food is part of the camp — not another thing to organise.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are included. Athletes should not spend the week shopping, cooking and organising meals. Depending on the day, dinner may be at the accommodation or a selected restaurant.

Training comes first. But there’s more to the week.

Optional opportunities may include Marbella, the Old Town, beaches, restaurants, mountain villages, pool time and short excursions. Nothing outside training is mandatory. If you would rather recover or fit in more paddling, that is completely fine.

A boat for every level

You do not need to travel with your own boat. Marbella has a wide selection of K1 kayaks and surfskis for all levels — from stable options for beginners to high-performance boats for elite paddlers.

A broad range. The right fit. No need to bring your own.

Tell us your experience, preferred boat type and size. The exact boat is confirmed before the camp, subject to availability.
